White House Landing -- Pemadumcook Lake

Mike found he can get cell phone service in the “wilderness”. He called in this afternoon from White House Landing which is on Pemadumcook Lake. It’s a private lodge which serves primarily fishermen. They don’t have electricity, but they do offer a cot, a shower and meals. He’ll stay there tonight and leave in the morning after an 8 AM breakfast.

It’s rough going. You don’t really walk, but take each step carefully over rocks and roots. He’s not making as good time as he planned, but after all it’s a vacation -- not a race. He’s met a quite a few northbound hikers and a few southbound.; has seen deer, small animals and many, many bugs but so far no moose. He was in good spirits and is really enjoying the hike thus far.

Mike took with him a hammock for sleeping, not a tent. The hammock has an oversize tarp for weather protection, but he’s decided to have us send his tent to him in Monson. The hammock is good for sleeping but not for cooking or just sitting around reading and playing the mandolin.
